The Grand Canyon of Greece is called Vikos


The deepest canyon in the world according to its depth in Guinness Book, is in Greece and is no other than the Vikos canyon in Epirus. It is no coincidence that many people call it, the "Grand Canyon" of Greece.

Part of the Vikos-Aoos National Park stands out for its unparalleled natural scenery, which looks like a painting. Perhaps the most famous of the sights in Zagori, is a reserve for rare species of flora and fauna.

Located 30 km northwest of Ioannina and at an altitude of 550 meters and reaching 1,780 meters, it begins near the village of Tsepelovo, and ends at Vitsiko, a village near the famous village Aristi, and the river that crosses it is the famous Voidomatis.



Its length reaches the 20 kilometers, while its depth in some places exceeds even one kilometer.

Finally, the traveller, in order to enjoy a panoramic view of the breathtaking canyon, has to go to Vikos village, Oxia and Beloisi, as well as to some points along the road leading to the villages of Monodendri, Megalo Papigo and the monastery of Agia Paraskevi.
