The easiest way to make the famous Greek tzatziki

Tzatziki is an appetizer of the Greek cuisine. Its main ingredient is strained yogurt,"stragisto" as it is commonly called, to which we add grated cucumber, melted garlic, dill and a little olive oil. Apart from Greece and Turkey, tzatziki is known in Iraq.

It is served as an appetizer, mainly accompanied by grilled meat. It goes well with french fries or zucchini. It can be served, spread on bread, and as an appetizer for ouzo or tsipouro. Tzatziki is a common ingredient in souvlaki.

How to make tzatziki at home

  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 cucumber
  • 200 gr. strained yogurt
  • salt
  • 4 tbsp. olive oil
  • a little parsley
  • a little dill

Melt one or more cloves of garlic. Grate the cucumber on the thick side of the grater. Transfer it to a colander, along with salt, which will help remove its liquids. Then squeeze it well with our hands to expel the water. Leave it in the colander for a few more minutes. Mix it together with the yogurt and the melted garlic. We add salt according to our preferences. Add virgin olive oil and mix well. Serve in a bowl. Garnish with chopped parsley and dill.
